Privacy Policy
Effective September 21, 2026 ยท Last updated September 21, 2026
The short version: we collect what we need to care for your pets and get paid for it โ your contact details, your address, your pets' details, and a record of each visit. We do not sell your information, we do not run advertising trackers, and we never see or store your card number.
Who we are
Housley Happy Paws is a pet-care business owned and operated by Rachel Housley in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. We serve Lancaster, Lititz, Manheim, Mountville, and Willow Street. This policy covers www.housleyhappypaws.com and the client portal you sign into on that site.
We are the business responsible for the information described here. You can reach us using the details at the bottom of this page.
What we collect
Information you give us
| Category | What it includes |
|---|---|
| Your account | Name, email address, phone number, home or service address, emergency contact name and phone, and an optional profile photo and short bio. |
| Your pets | Name, species, breed, sex, age or birthday, weight and size, photo, spay/neuter and microchip status, vaccination status, house-training status, how they do around other dogs, cats and children, energy level, behavioral notes, medications, allergies, special needs, feeding instructions, and your veterinarian's name and phone number. |
| Your bookings | The service you requested, dates and times, the address we're visiting, which part of the home we'll be in, and any special notes you leave us. |
| Messages | Anything you send us through the message center in the client portal, or through the contact form on our site. |
| Reviews | Your rating, your written review, and the name you'd like shown with it โ but only if you choose to leave one. |
Information created while we care for your pet
- Visit reports. Arrival and departure times, how long we stayed, distance walked, your pet's mood, whether they ate and drank, a personal note from your sitter, and photos taken during the visit.
- Walk location. When a walk is in progress, the phone carrying out the walk records GPS points (latitude, longitude, accuracy and time) so you can follow along on the live map and see the route afterward. Location is recorded only while a walk is actively running โ never between visits, and never from your own phone.
- Payment records. The amount, the service, the date, whether it was paid, and an identifier that lets us match it to the transaction in our payment processor.
We never see your card number. When you pay or save a card, you're handed off to a payment page hosted by Stripe, Inc. Your card details go to Stripe directly. They never pass through our website and we never store them. What we keep is a reference code that lets us charge the card you saved with Stripe โ nothing that could be used as a card number.
Information collected automatically
We do not use Google Analytics, advertising pixels, or any third-party tracking service on this site. The only automatic collection we do is narrow:
- QR code scans. When someone scans one of our printed QR codes, we record the date and time and the browser identification string your device sends (the "user agent" โ for example, that you're on an iPhone using Safari). We do not record IP addresses and we do not record which page referred you. We use this only to see roughly how often our printed cards get scanned.
- Standard server logs. Our website host and our database provider keep routine technical logs, which can include IP addresses, as part of running and securing the service.
Why we collect it
- To provide the service. We can't walk your dog without knowing where you live, how to get in, what your dog needs, and how to reach you.
- To keep your pet safe. Medications, allergies, behavioral notes and your vet's number exist so the person standing in your home has what they need in an emergency.
- To take payment and keep accurate business records.
- To communicate with you โ booking confirmations, visit reports, reminders, and replies to your messages.
- To run the business โ scheduling, assigning staff, and keeping track of what was done and when.
We do not use your information for behavioral advertising, and we do not build profiles of you for any purpose other than caring for your pets and running your account.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for advertising. We share it only with the service providers that make the website work, and only as far as each one needs:
| Provider | What they handle |
|---|---|
| Supabase | Our database and sign-in system. Your account, pets, bookings, messages, reports and payment records are stored here. |
| Vercel | Hosts the website and the code behind it. |
| Stripe, Inc. | Processes payments and stores your card securely. Your name, email and the amount are shared with Stripe so the charge can be made. |
| Resend | Delivers our email to you โ confirmations, reports, reminders. |
| Cloudinary | Stores and delivers the photos in your pet profiles and visit reports. |
| Google Fonts | Serves the typefaces used on the site. Loading a page requests those fonts from Google, which means Google receives your IP address as part of that request. |
| OpenStreetMap (Nominatim) | Turns a service address into map coordinates so the live walk map can be centered. This means the street address for a visit is sent to OpenStreetMap's public lookup service. |
Beyond those, we will share information only when we have to: with a veterinarian or emergency service if your pet needs care, with our own staff assigned to your visits, with a professional adviser such as an accountant, or where the law requires it.
Our own staff
Sitters and walkers who work for Housley Happy Paws can see the information they need for the clients they are assigned to โ your contact details, your address and entry instructions, your pets' care details, and the history of visits to your home. They cannot see other clients' information, and they cannot see your payment records.
Cookies and website storage
We do not use advertising or analytics cookies. We do not have a cookie banner because we do not set the kind of cookies that require one.
The site does use your browser's local storage โ a small amount of data saved on your own device โ for things that are necessary for the site to work or to remember your preferences:
- Your display preferences, including High Contrast mode and text size.
- A short-lived cache of photos and site content so pages load faster.
- Your email address, temporarily, if you start a password reset.
- Map coordinates already looked up, so we don't repeat the same lookup.
Signing in also sets a session token so you stay signed in. Clearing your browser's site data removes all of this and signs you out.
How long we keep it
We keep your account, pet profiles and visit history for as long as you are a client, and afterward for as long as we may reasonably need it โ to answer a question about a past visit, to resolve a billing dispute, or because tax and business records have to be kept. Payment and invoice records are kept for at least seven years to meet tax and accounting requirements. If you ask us to delete your account, we will delete what we are not required to keep, and tell you what is left and why.
Your choices and your rights
Pennsylvania does not currently have a general consumer data privacy law, so the rights below are ones we offer because we think they're right โ not because a statute forces them on us. If a Pennsylvania law is passed, we will follow it and update this page.
- See what we have. Ask us for a copy of the information in your account and we will send it to you.
- Fix it. You can edit your own profile and your pets' details at any time in the client portal. If something is wrong that you can't edit, tell us and we'll correct it.
- Delete it. Ask us to close your account and we will, subject to the records we're required to keep (above).
- Photos of your pet. Each pet profile has a setting controlling whether we may use photos of that pet on our website or social media. It's yours to change at any time, and we will not post a photo of your pet if it's switched off. We never post your address, the outside of your home, your street, or anything that identifies where you live, and we never post during an active house sit.
- Email. Service email โ booking confirmations, visit reports, receipts โ is part of the service and can't be turned off while you have active bookings. Anything promotional can be unsubscribed from without affecting your service.
To use any of these, email or call us using the details below. We'll respond within a few business days.
How we protect it
Access to your information is restricted by account: you can see your own records, our staff can see the clients they're assigned to, and Rachel can see everything as the owner. These restrictions are enforced by the database itself, not just by the screens you see. Traffic to and from the site is encrypted. Card data is held by Stripe, not by us.
No system is perfectly secure. If a breach ever affected your personal information, we would notify you as required by Pennsylvania's Breach of Personal Information Notification Act, and we would tell you what happened and what to do about it.
Children
Our services are for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13, and accounts must be created by an adult. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle your information, we will update this page and change the "last updated" date at the top. If the change is significant, we'll tell you directly rather than expecting you to notice.
